尊敬的老师们，同学们：
大家好。非常荣幸我能有这个机会在我们最后一天发表我的一些心里话。
Good morning, teachers and students. I am very honored to have this opportunity, on this last day of our course to share some of my heartfelt thoughts.
首先，我代表我们的同学们，非常感谢复旦大学国际文化交流学院和我们的老师们，你们给了我们一个良好的机会在一起学习汉语。我还记得朱院长第一天给我们的目标，就是希望我们能掌握这个机会，不仅要学汉语，也应该互相交流，互相了解。
Firstly, on behalf of my fellow students, I would like to warmly thank the International Culture Exchange School of Fudan University and our teachers for providing us with this excellent opportunity to study Chinese. I remember the objectives that Dean Zhu gave us on the very first day of this course, which is not only to learn Chinese, but also to have an mutual exchange of ideas amongst our teachers and ourselves in order to facilitate a better understand amongst ourselves and our cultures.
今天，我很高兴地向大家汇报一下：从昨晚的晚会，可以看到我们已经达到朱院长给我们的目标。昨晚，我们不仅有中国笑话，中国歌，中国诗,也有同学们给我们唱的日本，德国，韩国歌，加上夏老师给我们唱的几句京剧，我们都非常快乐。在这短短和匆匆忙忙的四个星期中，我们也交上了一些新的国际朋友。
Today, I am very happy to report that from the performances at last night’s party, we have achieved the objectives set by Dean Zhu. At last night’s performance, we not only had Chinese jokes, songs and poems, but we also had songs from Japan, Germany and Korea and also an excerpt of an operatic performance by Teacher Xia on Beijing Opera. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with these songs and performances. In these four short but busy weeks, we have also made new international friends.
虽然我在新加坡学过汉语，但是近三年前，我第一次来到上海，说不出一句汉语。那时，我就下定决心再学好我的汉语。可是过去的两年半，我又失败了。在我失望之时，一个在复旦大学毕业的同事推荐我去复旦大学报名，参加复旦给留学生上的汉语课。
Although I studied Chinese back in Singapore, when I first came to Shanghai almost three years ago, I could not speak a full mandarin sentence. That time, I decided that I should relearn my Chinese. But after 2.5 years, I failed again. In the midst of my disappointment, one of my colleagues who is a Fudan alumni recommended that I should enroll for a Chinese course in Fudan, which I did.
果然，我们的第一课，夏老师对我们讲，学汉语要“字字落实”，他不仅很仔细的把课文的一个一个字解释很清楚，也讲中国历史和思想，补充课文有关的地方。那时，我感到非常高兴，我终于找到了我应该上的汉语课了。我们的杨老师也一样，一课又一课，尽力地教我们汉语，还补充了好多中国历史、文化、社会上的新知识，让我们大开眼界，对汉语和中国获得更深入的了解。这个经验，好像是进入了一个新世界。
Indeed, on my first day in class, Teacher Xia explained to us that the way we should learn Chinese, is to understand each character fully, until the full meaning of the words reveals itself to us. In this first class, he not only explained every word clearly, but supplemented the class with Chinese history and Chinese thinking in the context of the lesson and the characters we were studying. Both Teacher Xia and Teacher Yang, our other teacher, would wholeheartedly teach us Chinese during each lesson, and thoroughly supplemented us with new knowledge of Chinese history, culture and the Chinese society. This has opened our eyes, allowing us to enter a new world where we could reach a deeper understanding of China and the Chinese language.
在短短的四周时间内，在夏老师和杨老师的教导下，我们在班上了解了“神农尝百草”，老子儒家思想，秦朝的剑池，诸葛亮，唐诗，鸦片战争，中国大革命，建设与改革，中国人民“奔向小康”，以及夏老师在复旦抓蚊子等等许多丰富的知识和有趣的故事。他们把复杂的问题举重若轻地给我们讲解。所以，我推荐我们的同学们,如果你们还没有这个机会上他们的课，应该去报名，参加下个短训班。我相信，其他班的同学们，在他们的老师们的教导下，也有同样的经验。
Within these four short weeks, under Teacher Xia and Teacher Yang’s instruction and guidance, we have discussed many rich and interesting stories about the early Chinese emperors, Laozi and Confucian thoughts, how the swords of the Qin Dynasty changed the political landscape in China, General Zhugeliang in the Three Kingdoms Period, Tang poetry, the Opium Wars, the Great Chinese Revolution, Construction and Reformation, improving the lives of the Chinese people in the modern times, all the way to discussing how Teacher Xia would catch mosquitoes in his Fudan school days. Both our teachers have managed to make difficult topics seem so easy to digest. Hence, I would recommend for those of our students who have not had the chance to attend their lessons, to enlist in the next course. I believe the rest of our students also had similar experiences with their teachers.
在课外，老师们，尤其是张老师，主持了很多有趣的课外活动，让我们体验中国的文化和生活，也让我们交上了更多的新朋友。
Outside the classroom, our teachers, especially Teacher Zhang, had organized many interesting activities for us to experience the Chinese culture and lifestyle and allowed us to make more new friends.
今天，科技很发达，我们有各种各样的电子词典、软件、碟片等等帮我们学汉语，可是，这还远远不能代替一个好老师，用这传统的黑板和粉笔上课。
Today, with advance technology, we have all sorts of electronic dictionaries, computer software, CDs/DVDs etc to help us learn Chinese. However, all these gadgets and tools cannot replace a good teacher, using the traditional chalkboard and a piece of chalk.
我代表我们同学们向复旦大学国际文化交流学院和老师们，表示我们的感谢，能给我们这个珍贵的机会学汉语和进行交流。我相信我们同学们从此会带着我们新的知识，新的友谊和美好的回忆，继续努力地加强我们对汉语和中国的了解。
Once, again, on behalf of my fellow students, we thank the International Culture Exchange School of Fudan University and our teachers for providing us with this precious opportunity to learn Chinese and exchange our ideas. I believe, we will all take home with us, our new knowledge, new friendships and wonderful memories and continue to improve our Chinese and our understanding of China.
